KRIS AQUINO must now apologize for the many sins of her brother, President BS Aquino The Last. I know, she didn’t personally commit the offenses but since her brother whom she loves very much refuses to acknowledge any sin and to apologize, then she must do it for him.
The many transgressions of the President have been so blatant that it rankles if anybody, especially a person close to him like Kris, would remain remorseless and even defend him. It may be very difficult for Kris to admit that a loved one like the President had erred, but I’m hopeful that she could do what she’s demanding of others to do, like apologizing for the sins of their parents.
No, I’m not asking that she apologize for her grandfather for his role during the Japanese occupation. What would have happened to the Aquinos if the leaders of the country didn’t move on after the bloody World War where tens of thousands of Filipinos died in the hands of the Japanese and their Filipino collaborators? She need not even apologize for the reported source of the Cojuangco fortunes for this supposed episode during the Fil-American war, nor for the alleged involvement of a sister in a government contract.
Rather, she should apologize only for the blatant offenses committed by her brother who continues to blame others for these. Take the Mamasapano massacre for instance. Why is it that there’s no justice for the 44 members of the Special Action Forces? Sure, the President has admitted responsibility but his actions never gave proof to this admission.
The massacre was downgraded as a “misencounter.” The intended citations and honors for the Gallant 44 were cancelled at the last minute. Worse, the President was even chummier with Muslim leaders who have defended the massacre, blaming the heroic PNP-SAF commandos for what happened.
Although he admitted responsibility, he refused to divulge the extent of his responsibility in this massacre. He rejected calls for his testimony and for the revelation of the contents of his communications with those involved in the operations. For the love of truth and for those who gave their lives for the country, Kris should apologize for these errant actions of her brother.
Hundreds of journalists, activists and lumads disappeared or were killed during the term of President Aquino. He can’t rant against abuses committed during martial law while remaining blind to atrocities committed under his watch. Never again? But it’s being done right now – and the President isn’t even apologetic about this. Sure, he did call for investigations but nothing had come out of them. And how come there wasn’t even a single word from Malacañang about the plight of Lumads who are being victimized by the mining firms’ private? Shouldn’t Kris apologize for these senseless deaths committed under the noses of the Aquino administration people?
Oh well, perhaps Kris and others behind the President could ask the families of the victims to move on but what if they say there can be no reconciliation without justice? The Aquino administration cannot cite command responsibility for previous administrations while rejecting any responsibility during his term.
Oh yes, speaking of keeping mum, Kris should also apologize for Malacañang’s failure to condole with the family of the late Sen. Joker Arroyo. Malacañang gave the lame excuse that there was no message of condolence because the Arroyo family never confirmed that Joker had died. This after several notables had already extolled the many virtues of the late statesmen and conveyed their condolences to his family.
Joker had been a family friend. He stood by Ninoy and Cory but opposed as unconstitutional then Sen. Noynoy Aquino’s bill seeking to create a new legislative district in Bulacan. Kris should apologize for her brother’s treatment of a long-time friend just because that friend didn’t accede to his legal interpretation.
If Kris is truly for truth and justice, then she shouldn’t tolerate or even defend her brother’s attempts to go around the Supreme Court’s ruling against the administration’s illegal use of the pork barrel and the Disbursement Acceleration Program.
If she can’t do these things for her brother, then she or any other member of her family has no business asking those from other families to apologize for their members’ perceived sins.
Case vs. Villanueva
The defenders of senatorial hopeful Joel Villanueva were correct that the National Bureau of Investigation had declared that the documents against his alleged misuse of his pork were forged or faked. However, this was way back in 2013. Something must have happened since then for about two months ago, then Justice Secretary Leila de Lime and the NBI included Villanueva in the third batch of cases against lawmakers in the alleged pork scam.
