Appellate court orders prosecution of Glorietta blast suspects

The Court of Appeals has given the green light to prosecute the accused in the Glorietta blast in Ayala Center in Makati City that took place on October 19, 2007. The blast killed 11 persons and injured 108 others. In a 16-page decision of the appellate court’s 10th Division, penned by Associate Justice Mariflor Punzalan-Castillo, the petition for certiorari filed by engineer Ricardo Cruz and Miguel Velasco Jr. was junked. Cruz was the operations manager of Metaline Enterprises while Velasco was its foreman under the same firm that was the contractor of Makati Supermarket Corporation (MSC). In the course of its investigation, bomb explosion was ruled out and it was found that the accumulated amounts of methane gas produced from the waste water and the diesel vapor in the basement of the MSC Building from August 4 to October 18, 2007 was enough to cause the explosion.
