A Quezon City council committee has endorsed for confirmation the appointments of five key city department heads.
The city council’s Committee on Laws and Internal Government chaired by Councilor Franz Pumaren approved the passage of a resolution confirming the co-terminus appointments of City Administrator Aldrin Cuña, city legal officer Christian Valencia, secretary to the mayor Tadeo Palma, retired police general Elmo Santiago as chief of the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety and City Information Officer Ares Gutierrez.
The resolution was authored by Councilor Godofredo Liban 2nd. It will be tackled on third and final reading where it will formally be approved and passed.
All five officials will serve until the end of the term of Mayor Herbert Bautista, who is on his third and last term.
Gutierrez is the only new appointee among the five officials.
Prior to his appointment as city information officer and chief of the Quezon City Public Affairs and Information Services Office, Gutierrez was a reporter, correspondent and editor in various local and international media organizations such as GMA News Online, Inquirer Publishing (Cebu Daily News), Gulf News, Al Nisr Media, Xpress Weekly, Journal Group of Publications, Malaya, the defunct Manila Chronicle and The Manila Times.
He was also Bautista’s chief of staff when he first won as city vice mayor in 1995.
