• Aquino assures sufficient funds available for quake-hit areas

President Benigno Aquino 3rd on Wednesday said there are sufficient funds available for areas affected by Tuesday’s earthquake.
“There are sufficient items, goods, materials for all of those who have evacuated,” Aquino said, as he expressed confidence that “everything is under control in Bohol.”
“So, especially for government, our role is really to lead at this point. I think everybody has been doing what they are supposed to do; that the studies that should be undertaken have been undertaken,” he added.
According to Aquino, the government will also look for ways to avoid deaths from calamities.
“I really want to assure everybody, everytime there’s a natural calamity—even a man-made calamity— every life lost, it really presses us further to find how we can further improve what is already existing…One can never promise that there will never be casualties, no agency, but I think one will be remiss if we cannot demonstrate it there’s an improvement.,” he said.
Aquino said he will wait for the report of Department of Social Welfare and Development on the damage to private homes before involving Vice President Jejomar Binay, who has overall supervision of the housing sector through Pag-IBIG.
“We’ll task them and I’m sure they are undertaking that already and they will do that to—waiving of the loans, etc.—they’ll come up with a whole list of things that can be done,” he said.
