• Aquino blasts media critics who ‘elevate blood pressure’

BARELY a month after saying that “ignoring” his critics will be one of his New Year resolutions, President Benigno Aquino 3rd on Monday lashed at his detractors, especially in media, whom he described as “irresponsible.”

Aquino, who was the guest speaker during the 114th anniversary of the Manila Bulletin on Sunday, said many newspapers “elevate blood pressure,” “trump up the worst news possible” and “cause despair.”

“The naysayers, the irrational critics, the vested interests who measure their success through their ability to sacrifice the well-being of the nation to pursue their own selfish agenda—all of them have been left in the dust by a nation that no typhoon, no faction, and no irresponsible columnist can break,” the President said.

“Our people have proven themselves more united, more discerning, more cooperative, and in particular, more committed to making change permanent than those who once tried to take advantage of them,” he said.

Aquino, however, acknowledged that the media must not “only be bearers of good news.”

“The progress of our country can only be accounted for when it is measured against, and in spite of, the challenges that we have endured,” he said.

On January 7, Aquino told a group of high school students from Miriam College that one of his New Year’s resolutions was to pay no mind to his
critics. The other was that he would go easy on members of his Cabinet.

These critics, he said, “see nothing good in whatever I say,” and they “detract from [efforts at]solving the problems of this country.”

“Why would I give them my time of day when they are so unreasonable? If I attend to them, I won’t be able to attend to the problems of the country. So that has to be another resolution: ignore the people who are hopeless,” Aquino said.

In December, the President said he wondered why the media was bashing him. He added that he will pray for the enlightenment of biased columnists.

The President also admitted that he violated his vow not to put too much pressure on any member of his Cabinet.

“I would admit that there are times that I feel guilty when even during holidays or a special occasion, I will have to summon our Secretaries or talk to them on the phone. That was one of my New Year’s Resolutions: not to pressure our colleagues. It’s better to give them a breathing space or a respite from too much work,” he said during the turnover ceremonies of new classrooms in Carmona, Cavite.

Aquino said he “violated” his vow when he called up Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman for updates on the recent typhoon not realizing that it was a Sunday.

“Yesterday I violated that [vow]. I erred by sending a text message to Secretary Dinky Soliman. I took the opportunity also to check on the effects of [Typhoon] Basyang. She told me: ‘Sir, I’ll get back to you when I get the data.’ When she did, there were only a few evacuation centers that were open. After our talk, I realized that it was Sunday that’s why I told her: ‘I hope you get a good rest today, Dinky,’” the President recalled.

    1. If only PNoy would take some time to read comments from “netizens” (like us?), then he’ll probably find out for himself how his “bosses” feel/think about him.

    2. I pity Pnoy for what he is doing for the country despite all the problems that he has to pay. Yeng Makabenta’s article is the proof that we are doing great under this administration but obviously Noynoy is not perfect. But is anybody perfect? Hope we as Filipinos can put our act together and help our country to growand help other countries as well.

    3. The trouble with us is that we tend to believe with what was Malacanang mouthpieces is saying that NOYNOY has nothing to do with the corruption in his government. Like they talk too much, act too slow, and do too little in response to Yolanda victims and yet Noynoy still gets the resounding very satisfactory rating from SWS and PULSE ASIA survey fabricators.

    4. Oh Abnoy, you retard. Wrong again. The media is only reporting your crimes and not only they, but the people are against you. From all classes and religion, in the cities and provinces, both men and women of all ages. We want nothing else than to vomit you from our lives, to be cleansed of your malevolence.

At marami pang iba. Fake surveys na saan ang mga worldwide contributions billions of dollars para sa Yolanda? These are with evidences at documented.

    6. Below is the main reason of CNoy’s “elevated blood pressure”:

“The latest survey results showed the administration receiving high marks in defending the country’s territorial rights, with a net 52; foreign relations, 50; and helping the poor, 49; but suffered on its thrust to fight graft and corruption where it received a net rating of 8; eradicating hunger, 2; and fighting inflation, negative 10.
The biggest issue that besets the Aquino administration, however, is the still unresolved Maguindanao massacre in which it received a negative 51 rating.”

Just imagine SWS gave him high rating in a survey in Tacloban. Nagalit tuloy yong mga biktima ng Yolanda at nagorganized ng martsa na tinawag nilang People Surge which the mainstream media desperately swept under the rags.
