PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino 3rd on Monday heaped praises on female officials in his government, including the so-called “Three Furies” — Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Ombudsman Conchita-Carpio Morales and retired Commission on Audit chairperson Grace Pulido-Tan.
“To you my heartfelt thanks,” the President said in his State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Besides the three, Aquino also commended Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno and Bureau of Internal Revenue chair Kim Henares.
He said these officials were instrumental in the incarceration of senators who allegedly misused their pork barrel funds. Lawmakers who are now detained for involvement in the P10 billion Priority Development Assistance Fund scam are former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Senators Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr.
“If they still have doubts about lady justice being blindfolded, they should see the three senators who are in jail and a former president who is (under hospital arrest),” said Aquino.
In the same speech, the President also thanked Education Secretary Armin Luistro, Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority director general Joel Villanueva for instituting reforms in their respective agencies.
