TUAO, Cagayan: President Benigno Aquino 3rd will inaugurate the P600 million Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP)-funded projects here linking Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera and the Ilocos Region on August 18.
Presidential Legislative Liaison Office chief Secretary Manuel Mamba on Tuesday confirmed the President’s visit in the country’s northernmost mainland province to visit northwestern Tuao town where the projects are located.
Mamba said the projects included a 22-kilometer paved road network named the Cory Aquino Highway and three overflow bridges measuring 360 meters called the Ninoy Aquino Bridge, 40 meters and 20 meters, respectively.
Mamba said the project is not new and that it was already envisioned even during the Marcos administration.
“It is only now under President Aquino’s term that it was given full due attention by the national government,” he said.
Lying across the mighty Chico River, the bridges and the network of road project will link Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) through the eastern and western sides of Tuao town which will eventually connect the Ilocos Region via the town of Solsona in Ilocos Norte.
Mamba said that with the realization of these projects, it is expected that trade, economic and tourism activities in the tri-boundary area would get a boost.
“More importantly, there will be easy access to education and medical facilities, and foremost, the quality of life of the residents will further improve,” Mamba said.
A close political ally of the President, Mamba also served as Tuao town mayor and representative of Cagayan’s third congressional district. He is reportedly being groomed by the Liberal Party to run for vice governor of the province come May 2016 elections.
Meanwhile, Aquino said that the project will serve the people of Tuao and the whole of Cagayan promoting inter-regional growth of agriculture, tourism and other economic and social potential of this part of the country.
Mamba said the President is hoping that the new bridges and road network will enable the country’s northern communities to become more dynamic participants in the realization of the inclusive growth in our country.
