Araneta Center formally welcomed the arrival and addition of the Novotel brand of hospitality in the bustling business and lifestyle district of Cubao, Quezon City on March 8 with President Benigno Aquino 3rd as guest of honor.
The President inaugurated the 41-storey building with 200 guest rooms, which was completed in the last quarter 2015. Since then, the Accor Group’s property had been on a successful soft opening run.
In his speech, Aquino recalled childhood memories spent at Araneta Center where he would catch movies at the New Frontier Cinema and Theater, now the Kia Theater, or watch boxing matches at the old Araneta Coliseum.
Joining the President during the opening ceremony were Araneta Group, CEO and Chairman and President Jorge Araneta, Accor Chief Operating Officer for Upper Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia Patrick Basset, and Novotel Manila Araneta Center General Manager Bernd Schneider (who previously managed Sofitel Dubai), and Department of Trade and Industry Undersecretary Adrian Cristobal Jr.
Unable to stay for the party, the rest of the guests were treated to a gastronomical and musical experience with dinner served at the Food Exchange Manila and Gourmet Bar by Novotel.
Entertainment was provided by American singer Rex Smith who sang his greatest hits like “You Take My Breath Away” and “Everlasting Love.”
Among those spotted in the event were officials from the diplomatic, government and business sectors including US Ambassador Philip Goldberg, Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares, Araneta Hotels and CH Pacific’s Peter Jentes and the Tantoco family of Rustan’s Commercial Corporation.
