Aquino orders OWWA to probe sex-for-ticket scam

President Benigno Aquino 3rd has ordered a thorough investigation of the controversy involving government officials who reportedly force Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to have sex with them in exchange for plane tickets to the Philippines.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Carmelita Dimzon plans to organize an inter-agency committee that will look into the complaints of OFWs in the Middle East, particularly in Kuwait. The committee will be composed of officials and representatives from the Departments of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Foreign Affairs (DFA), and OWWA.

Dimzon said no one has filed any formal complaints.

“We are encouraging them to come out and inform us. We need their formal complaints.

Rest assured that their identities will be protected,” the OWWA chief said.

She gave assurances that there would be no whitewash or cover-up in the investigation.
Reports indicated that some officials of the Philippine embassy and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Kuwait are involved in the ‘sex for ticket’ scandal.
