Amid concerns about his security after the alleged leakage of his phone numbers, President Benigno Aquino 3rd is safe, a Malacañang official said on Monday.
In a text message, Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda assured public that President Aquino’s Security Group is handling the country’s chief executive’s “physical protection and security.”
“The President’s physical protection and security is ably handled by the PSG [ Presidential Security Group],” Lacierda said.
President Aquino has always been easily accessible to the media, the Palace official said. He added that the country’s chief executive remains one of the most accessible public servants.
“Everyone knows that the President is one of the most accessible public officials ever since he as-sumed public office,” Lacierda added
Earlier, a Filipino hacker, who calls himself “Hashtag Prisoner”, claimed to have posted online President Aquino’s personal mobile telephone numbers, noting that it is the only way for Filipinos to get in touch with the President directly.
But, Palace deputy spokesman Abigail Valte said “the accessibility to the President continues.”
The Palace official, meanwhile, refused to comment further, saying that they “don’t want to dignify that particular allegation with a comment.”
“I can’t comment on that at this time. In our judgment and at least as far as the President is concerned, we don’t want to dignify those alleged numbers with a response,” Valte added
Earlier, Strategic Communication Secretary Ramon Carandang was denouncing a hacker who listed three mobile phone numbers allegedly belonging to the President.
He, however, would not confirm if the numbers were indeed the President’s. “We’re dealing with it. That’s all I can say for now.”
