President Benigno Aquino 3rd has signed into law the proposed P14.6-billion supplemental budget for the rehabilitation of calamity-stricken areas.
Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said the Aquino signed the joint congressional resolution on December 26.
The supplemental budget was sourced from the unreleased 2013 Priority Development Assistance Fund of lawmakers, which was earlier declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
The budget will cover the “relief and rehabilitation services, and the repair, reconstruction of permanent structures, including other capital expenditures for disaster operations and rehabilitation activities in areas affected by disasters and calamities, both natural and man-made.”
This will include, but will not be limited to, areas devastated by Typhoons Labuyo, Odette, Pablo, Sendong, Santi, and Vinta, the unrest in Zamboanga City, the 7.2-magnitude earthquake in Bohol and Cebu provinces and Super Typhoon Yolanda.
