THE Anakpawis party-list slammed the decision of President Benigno Aquino 3rd to keep Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio in his cabinet despite his failure to improve rail service.
“Once again, the Aquino administration demonstrates what really is ‘daang matuwid’, it’s all about coddling and protecting incompetent govern- ment officials in the name of personal and partisan ties,” Rep. Fernando Hicap said.
“As the DOTC [Department of Transportation and Communications] chief, Abaya did not display an ounce of concern to the welfare of train commuters as it failed to improve the service of our train system particularly the MRT. The long queues of passengers and frequent disruption of train operation due to computer glitches are still there. Literally and figuratively, there’s no significant improvement of services in the train system at all,” the lawmaker added.
Aside from problems dogging the MRT 3, the DOTC also failed to solve the chronic traffic problem along EDSA, he said. A study made by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2012, said the government lost P2.4 billion daily because of unbridled traffic.
“Despite the billions of revenue losses, the prolonged negative effects in the economy caused by unbridled traffic and the continuing burdensome service of the MRT created by the DOTC, President Aquino is hell bent on maintaining Abaya at the DOTC helm despite the wide clamor of the public to kick him out of the office” Hicap said.
On Saturday, Abaya said he is ready to step down but that it is his privilege to serve the Filipinos.
