Aquino to address nation at 6:30 pm

President Benigno Aquino 3rd will address the nation at 6:30 p.m. today, the second time since January 28 when he spoke on the Mamasapano operation that killed 44 members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF).

The announcement from Malacanang’s communications office did not say what the address will be about.

The president is likely to discuss the top secret operation to arrest two high-profile terrorists—Malaysian Zulkifli bin Hir alias Marwan, and his Filipino deputy Basit Usman.

Marwan’s death has been confirmed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

In last week’s address, Aquino admitted prior knowledge of the Maguindanao operation but blamed suspended SAF chief Getulio Napenas for his failure to coordinate with the military. The president also said
suspended PNP chief Alan Purisima knew about the operation, which was
planned before Purisima was suspended in December last year on corruption charges.

The absurdity of ‘utang na loob’, and the folly of a ‘misplaced loyalty’..
If I were a President’s son, living in the palace, I would expect my guard to look after my safety and to protect me from any untoward incident. If, in fact, such an event were to happen, and my life is spared..saved by the brave and quick thinking guard, I would be grateful for his act of saving me and, for doing his job. I would resolve to reward him at some future date, or when it became possible to do so. Now, as President, I have that opportunity. I appoint him as Chief/PNP. I can now consider my debt substantially paid, even as I expect him to perform honestly and to the best of his ability in his new do his job.
Over time, I have reports of my savior’s unbecoming behavior in his job. These include graft, incompetence and negligence of duty; all of which are supported by indisputable evidence. These faults, if true, impact the public which I, myself, am pledged to serve. All logic and inclination point to the public as the first objects of my loyalty; not my savior.. because..”have I not already paid my debt of gratitude”? Does my ‘utang na loob’ go on? Wasn’t my ‘savior’ obligated to perform honestly and with due diligence on the job in the first place? And are we not, both, obligated to serve the public first and at all times?
So..while there is a proper time and place for ‘Utang Na Loob’.. it should not be carried
    “Ad Absurdum”.
