The call for presidential candidates to join forces to thwart the possible win of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte sounds “hollow” because President Benigno Aquino 3rd has been hitting the rivals of his bet, Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd, according to Vice President Jejomar Binay’s camp.
Aquino, it said, should just work to ensure that the elections on Monday are clean and orderly.
“With two days to go before the people choose their next president, Vice President Jejomar Binay believes the President should just ensure that the election is free from cheating, violence and intimidation. Besides, such a call for unity sounds hollow considering that the President has been hitting the rivals of Roxas throughout the campaign,” United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) communications director Joey Salgado said in a statement issued on Friday night.
“Basta’t nahalal sa malinis na eleksyon, dapat igalang ng lahat ang hatol ng taumbayan dahil yan ang diwa ng demokrasya. Tuloy ang laban ni VP Binay para sa isang gobyernong hindi manhid at palpak, at tunay na naglilingkod sa mahihirap [As long as one is elected in clean elections, everyone should respect the people’s judgment because that is the essence of democracy. VP Binay’s fight for a government that is not insensitive and inept, and which truly serves the poor continues],” Salgado said.
UNA held its miting de avance on Saturday in Makati City, where Binay served as mayor for 21 years before he was elected Vice President in 2010.
