BULACAN: President Benigno Aquino 3rd assured residents of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal and some parts of Cavite of adequate and uninterrupted supply of potable surface water as he led the unveiling of the P3.3 billion water transmission project at the Ipo Dam here on Thursday.
Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, Asian Development Bank (ADB) country director Richard Bolt and Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) administrator Gerry Esquivel joined Aquino in the inspection of the tunnel after viewing the schematic diagram of the project expected to be completed by the year 2020.
Aquino said that the project will ensure that there will be no more total disruption of service due to the more than 40-year old tunnel which will be rehabilitated and improved with modern standard and technology.
The project is funded through an ADB loan and will allow further rehabilitation works on the raw water transmission system to ensure sustainable provision of water supply in the areas concerned.
Alvarado also thanked the president for his initiatives to bring fresh surface water supply to the homes of three million residents here through the Bulacan Bulk Water Supply Project.
He said that after almost 50 years of watching their supply of fresh mountain water supplied to Metro Manila, the people of Bulacan will now enjoy the bounty of their natural resources and no longer depend on water sourced through deep well.
