Philippine Football Federation (PFF) President Mariano Araneta has been appointed to the International Football Federation (FIFA) and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) joint mission that will investigate football issues in Indonesia.
Araneta, who was elected into the AFC Executive Committee in April, will be going to Jakarta along with mission leaders Kohzo Tashima of Japan and His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah Ibni Sultan Ahmed Shah of Malaysia.
The FIFA-AFC group will investigate the issues revolving the Indonesian football organization and is expected to submit a report and recommendations in December.
Indonesia was suspended in May because of serious violation of the FIFA statutes and was consequently banned from participating in any FIFA-sanctioned tournament including the Asian Cup and World Cup qualifiers.
According to the statement released by the AFC, the suspension came out following a “prolonged government interference in the affairs of the association” which resulted into the international halt in any undertaking of Indonesian football. JAELLE NEVIN REYES
