BALANGA City, Bataan: Around 300 people joined a fun run starting in the capital city to Mount Samat in Pilar town on Sunday to commemorate Bataan Day.
Categories featured in the fun run organized by Without Limits were 50-km, 10,km, 5-km, 1-km and 500 meters.
“This was organized by Without Limits and sponsored by Veterans Bank and some other companies in coordination with the provincial and city governments. It is a fun run for families to give tribute to veterans,” said race director Ian Alacar.
Gov. Albert Raymond Garcia, who joined the 5-km category, said the fun run is one activities lined-up before the culmination of the observance of the 72nd Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9 in Mt. Samat.
“It was a successful event with some officials of the United States Embassy coming,” the governor said.
American Dan Rice, who finished third among 15 runners in the 50-K category, took part in the Death March run from Mariveles to San Fernando, Pampanga covering more than 100 kilometers last March.
“The 50-K run was very hard because Mount Samat is very tall but it was night time and the view was beautiful,” he said.
Participants in the 50-K category began the race midnight of Saturday at the capitol and reached the finish line 7 a.m. on Sunday.
American Herb Daniels, who joined the 10-K category, said it was a great run that was well-supported. “It will be a good opportunity to run next year.”
