La Salle outclassed Philippine Merchant Marine School in all three sets and carved out a 25-23, 25-22, 25-22 decision to force a four-way tie for the Group A lead in the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig yesterday.
The Archers actually played just enough to repulse the Mariners, producing 47 spikes, two blocks and two service aces. Raymark Woo, the team’s top hitter, slowed down with seven hits, enabling Mike Frey and Cris Dumago to take the scoring honors with 11 and 10 markers, respectively.
Arjay Onia chipped in nine hits while Joshua Elorde added five points and Geuel Asia came away with 35 excellent sets and finished with two hits for the Archers, who joined Perpetual Help, National U and Far Eastern U at 3-1.
That makes the fight for the two semifinal slots fiercer with NU and Perpetual disputing the first Final Four berth in a crucial match on Saturday.
FEU and La Salle, on the other hand, clash for the other semis seat on Aug. 31.
Keyvin Premaylon fired 11 hits while Erickson Chan and Ram-j Pakingan scored seven points each for the Mariners, who fell to 0-4 in a tie with the St. Benilde Blazers.
Meanwhile, National College of Business and Arts toppled Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, in a duel of winless teams in Group B of the mid-season conference of the country’s premier men’s volley league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Accel as official outfitter.
