Joshua Dandan overpowered Joshua Miranda and Dennis Vitaliano, 6-0, 6-0, to reach the second round in the men’s doubles event of the 33rd Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open presented by Cebuana Lhuillier and Metro Global Holdings on Sunday.
The third-seeded Arcilla and Dandan faces Leo Toledo and Bernan Bering, who won via walkover against Rodolfo Barquin and Joshua Kinaadman.
Defending champions Patrick John Tierro and Ronard Joven also advanced to the second round after Inigo Caguiron and Butch Mejico failed to show up for their first-round match. The Tierro-Joven duo will face Jun Cortez and Jet Tangalin who defeated Al Khaidi Jainul and Wilson Oblea, 6-1, 6-3.
Arcilla’s younger brother, Jomar, teamed up with Roel Capangpangan to turn back John Jeric Accion and Andrew Tangalin, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
John Altiche and Jason Benitez outlasted Israel Abarquez and Russel Arcilla Jr., 7-6 (1), 6-4 in the tournament supported by Hon. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, Dunlop, Fujidenzo/Whirlpool, Babolat, Head, Accel, Malate Bayview Mansion, Coca-Cola Bottlers Phils. Inc., Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Company Inc. and Seno Hardware.
Also in the second round were Roderick Agna and Danilo Olosin who downed Bernlo Bering and Randy Delavin, 6-3, 6-2; Akio Sy and Ernesto Pantua who crushed Jhun Llira and Aeron Empleo, 6-3, 6-0; Hakeem Cariga and Francisco Santos trounced Paulo Baran and Carlos Rosales, 6-2, 6-2; and Jun Alcoseba and Arc Dolorito who whipped Jordan Villanueva and Martin de Castro, 6-3, 6-4.
Completing the first-round winners were No. 2 Elbert Anasta and Mark Alcoseba, No. 4 Marc Reyes and Jed Olivarez, No. 5 Arvin Ruel and Rolando Ruel Jr., Expedito Lim Jr. and Dennis Santa Cruz, Kim Polero and Jedree Tan, and Ervin Concepcion and Elijah Arevalo who all breezed through the next round via walkover wins in the event backed by United Auctioneers Inc.
