Arellano Chiefs subdue Letran

THE Arellano University Chiefs crushed the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights, 79-70, on Wednesday in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament elimination round at The Arena in San Juan City.

Keith Agovida led the Chiefs’ fiery blitz in securing their 12th win against four losses strengthening their grip of the second spot. Arellano is just a win away from solo leader San Beda College Red Lions, who are carrying a 13-3 win-loss record.

With the victory, the Chiefs are now assured of a playoff for the last semifinals berth. Coach Jerry Codinera’s team is bent on grabbing the second twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.

Codiñera praised his wards for the big win over the Knights, whom they also beat narrowly, 63-62, in the first round of the elimination on August 4. But he admonished them not to celebrate yet until they hurdled four-peat champions San Beda Red Lions on October 4.

Agovida of Aurora finished with 18 points on top of 10 rebounds. He was seven-of-11 in the field goal.
