Arellano shoots for sixth win vs Mapua

Arellano University seeks to keep its grip of the solo lead as it clashes with a dangerous Mapua even as seven-peat champion San Beda tries to keep in step with the leaders today in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 92 juniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Braves turned back the Letran Squires, 87-75, on Thursday to seize the No. 1 spot with a perfect 5-0 (win-loss) record and would stay on top if they could hurdle the Mapua Robins, also unbeaten with a 4-0 mark, in their 2:15 p.m. encounter.

Guillmer Dela Torre is expected to spearhead Arellano anew after posting up impressive averages of 19.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.4 steals and nearly a block a game in his first five games.

“He’s one of the biggest reasons we’re doing good right now, hopefully we continue our good play,” said Arellano coach Tylon Darjuan.
