• Arles enters Bowling World Cup quarterfinals


    Philippine Open champion Mades Arles scored 1,829 in the second round, good enough to secure a spot in the eight-player quarterfinals of the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup women’s division on Friday at the Sibiryak center in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

    Arles had a series of 235, 215, 203, 211, 222, 256, 247 and 240 to take the fourth position.

    She has a total pinfalls of 7,392, behind Canada’s Caroline Lagrange (7,809), Dominican Republic’s Aumi Guerra (7,689) and United States’ Danielle McEwan (7,571).

    Also making it to the quarterfinals are Cherie Tan of Singapore (7,373), Roosa Lunden of Finalnd (7,326), Thanshaina Seraus of Aruba (7,227) and Luminta Farkas Bucin of Romania (7,134).

    The top three players after the eight-game quarterfinal round will advance to the semifinal stage.

    In the men’s division, Benshir Layoso bowed out of contention after finishing 17th overall in the second round.

    The 44-year-old Layoso faltered in the second phase of the elimination round, scoring 258, 211, 195, 247, 181, 202, 265 and 247. Layoso wrapped up his campaign with a total output of 7,390.

    The quarterfinalists in the men’s side are Peter Hellstrom of Sweden (7,787), Or Aviram of Israel (7,742), Mats Maggi of Belgium (7,708), Guy Caminsky of South Africa (7,675), John Szczerbinski of USA (7,661), Bodo Konieczny of Germany (7,628), Humberto Vazquez of Mexico (7,616) and Alexei Parshukov of Russia (7,612).
