CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao: Police authorities in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PNP-ARMM) warned that the “date-rape drug” has become popular among men who take advantage of women in bars, night clubs and night parties.

“This is used to sexually abuse young women in party circles and clubs,” said Chief Superintendent Ronald R. Estilles, PNP-ARMM regional director, citing reports not only in ARMM but also in other parts of the country.

The ARMM is composed of the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is a depressant that is commonly referred to as “club drug” or “date rape drug.” The use of this drug leads to increased sex drive, sweating, loss of consciousness, nausea, hallucinations, amnesia, and coma, among others.

It is an odourless and colorless drug that can easily be combined with alcoholic beverages and given to unsuspecting victims prior to sexual assaults.

With this, the PNP-ARMM reminds all women particularly those who are fond of parties and nightly bar-hopping to be cautious on receiving drinks offered by strangers.

Meanwhile, the police encourages the public to be wary and to report any untoward incident regarding the manufacturing, selling, and abuse of the said drug.
