THE Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday urged Grade 10 completers in the Autonomous Region Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) to enroll in senior high school (SHS) in June 2016, noting that only 19,658 registered early out of the target 28,915 students. Secretary Armin Luistro made the pitch during the K-to-12 Summit at Notre Dame of Jolo College, adding that the government will aid Grade 10 completers who will pursue Grades 11 and 12 in a private school through the voucher program. SHS allows students to choose from—Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood, Sports, and Arts and Design—designed to help learners prepare for higher education, employment, or entrepreneurship. He also noted the gap between the number of enrolled and those who complete schooling in elementary and secondary education in the region. He said out of 636,000 enrollees in 2014, only 224,000 completed the elementary education. In the same year, about 72,476 or almost half of the 148,000 enrollees completed secondary education.
