COTABATO CITY: The Department of Tourism in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOT-ARMM) vows to further enhance efforts in the promotion of tourism industry in the region.
Newly-installed Regional Secretary Bai Ayesha Vaneesa Hajar Dilangalen said her office has presented to the ARMM government its Tourism Roadmap for the first 100 days incorporating proposed programs, activities and projects to boost the region’s eco-tourism industry.
Dilangalen identified the projects as the beautification of the Awang Airport, construction of the DOT-ARMM office, strategic planning for program targets for this year, and conceptualization of the project Travel Mart showcasing elegant and known intricate handwoven textiles and materials, local delicacies, costumes, cultural dances unique to the region and many others.
She said she had the chance to meet with Rene Salud, one of the country’s top fashion designer, who agreed to design dresses using the Inaul, a local handwoven textile, for the candidates to the 2017 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant to be held in Manila in January 2017.
“I hope this would translate to income for our weavers and better and wider opportunity for our Inaul industry,” Dilangalen said.
The official added that she had the opportunity to attend the recent BIMP-EAGA Joint Tourism Development Forum in Indonesia where she presented deliverables for 2016 to include continuing development and enhancement of tourist attractions in Tawi-Tawi and Turtle Island.
With the ongoing full implementation of law enforcement operations against illegal drugs and terrorism, Dilangalen is optimistic this will not have a significant negative impact on tourism in the ARMM.
Urging media support in the promotion of tourism industry, Dilangalen also requested reporters and bloggers through the use of the social media.
The DOT-ARMM’s daily radio program “Lakbay Turismo” aired over local Radio Natin DXAE is also a big help in disseminating important updates and information about the programs of office, she said.
