GAMU, Isabela: In preparation for the 78th founding anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Army’s 5th Infantry Division (5ID) here collected 34,000 cubic centimeters of blood from its donor soldiers.

Sgt. Clifford Soriano, civil military operations battalion officer, said soldiers from
different infantry brigades and battalions under the Philippine Army’s 5ID were asked to donate blood for the needy soldier patients and civilians in its area of operations.

Soriano said the bloodletting activity over the weekend is part of the AFP’s annual celebration on December 21, which is usually attended by the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.

The soldiers also conducted a tree-planting activity inside the camp as part of their contribution to the government’s national greening program.

The area of operations of the 5ID covers the regions of Cagayan Valley, Ilocos and Cordillera.
