The Philippine Army Dragon Boat Team bagged a gold medal in the 2015 Japan Dragon Boat Championships held at the Okawa Lake in Osaka, Japan.
The Army paddlers topped the men’s 250-meter Open Standard Boat event, beating 17 other teams.
“Mga kapatid, kakagutom ang lumaban sa kampeonato. Masarap ang pakiramdam na magdadala ng karangalan para sa bansa. Salamat sa inyong suporta at sa mga panalangin,” said team manager Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc.
Head coach staff sergeant Usman Anterola and assistant coach staff sergeant Romy John Dionio led the squad along with sergeant Reynaldo Baylon (drummer) and master sergeant Franco Tinoco (steersman).
The other members of the team were Joemar Ocquiana, Salvador Sumagaysay, Ronald Tan, Elwin Juan, Jomon Ocquiana, Rodrigo Tanuan Jr, Romel Anote, Domingo Bagni, Corporel Pajiri Sahibad, Sonny Boy Bendebel, Ramie Llano, Gerald Dela Cruz, Alvin Sabijon, Reyjel Paranaque, Jose Ijalo, Gil Martin Gonzales, Hardy Pabulayan, Arnie Cafe, Leomar Mirasol, Cresmark Dayumat and Abdil Azziz Sanaani.
The Philippine Army has been a dominant force in international scene, winning two gold medals in the 9th International Dragon Boat Federation Club Crew World Championships held in Ravenna, Italy last year.
