Army sergeant killed, pal hurt in ambush


A PHILIPPINE Army (PA) Sergeant was killed and his companion was hurt in ambush by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay San Isidro, Libmanan town in Camarines Sur on Wednesday. Camarine Sur Police Chief, Senior Supt. Wilfredo Pornillos identified the slain officer as Sgt. Rodel Rala, of the Army’s 22nd Infantry Battalion (IB). Rala was riding a motorcycle with the unidentified backrider and negotiating the curved portion of the road when fired upon by two suspected NPA rebels. The wounded victims ran for cover but were chased by the gunmen who caught up with Rala and fired more shots on him. Rala was later declared dead-on-arrival at Libmanan District Hospital.
