• Army tightens security at libingan

SECURITY was beefed up at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Cemetery for Heroes) in Taguig City (Metro Manila) in wake of reported protest rallies by groups opposing the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos there. Col. Benjamin Hao, Philippine Army spokesman, said the anti-Marcos protesters are also planning to lay rocks and stones on the gravesite. Hao explained that while authorities respect the freedom of expression of those opposing the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte in allowing a hero’s burial for Marcos, other families have to be secured and be given the opportunity to have a solemn time with their dear departed. He said that last June several groups laid stones and rocks at the burial site with names of alleged martial law victims written on them.
