Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga and Aerosmith—recent concerts with ridiculously high-priced tickets and yet Filipinos trooped to the venues like ants on a spilled caramel float.
It’s quite disappointing that Filipinos willingly spend tens of thousands of pesos to watch these foreign artists, but weren’t willing to support an equally-talented and popular group such as Journey, whose lead singer is even our very own Arnel Pineda.
Arnel admits that their concert was cancelled because of poor ticket sales, but rather than feel frustrated, Pineda says he perfectly understands the situation and that they are still planning to perform here in the country before the year ends.
“Nakakalungkot siyempre, pero naiintindihan ko naman, kasi it was a time na medyo maraming gastos, kakatapos lang ng graduation and everyone was preparing for their Holy Week break,” Pineda told The Manila Times at the launch of his newest endorsement for Puregold.
Journey’s concert was scheduled on March 21 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“But hopefully, we could do reschedule our concert before the year ends, maybe in December,” he added.
Pineda also addressed rumors that the band had already broken up. “We [Journey] are still very much together, even if we are doing our own things, we still regularly communicate and are working on a new album as a follow-up to Eclipse. Everyone [in the group]is a professional and we’ve all been in this business for quite a while so hindi naman mahirap makisama sa kanila.”
He was then asked if it was true that Journey prohibits them from singing their songs without the band; “Yes, we have an agreement, and I completely agree with it naman, and I personally think that is how it should be to protect the group as well.”
Expressing his thanks
Besides TV guestings, Pineda has also been tapped as an endorser for various products, the most recent of which is for Puregold.
As the supermarket chain marks 10 years in the business, Pineda was chosen to perform the newest jingle of Tindahan ni Aling Puring entitled “TENkyu Po.”
The campaign that aims to celebrate and salute the success of the Ka-Asenso heroes who are primarily the sari-sari store members of Puregold’s Tindahan ni Aling Puring. The campaign captures each sari-sari storeowner’s unique success story and simple beginnings in order to inspire more Filipinos to carve their own success stories with the help of
Puregold’s Tindahan ni Aling Puring membership program.
Pineda is the perfect artist to perform “TENkyu Po” as he is a living testament on what hard work, determination, and faith in God can do to achieve one’s dreams.
“I have so much to be thankful for,” said Arnel. “I too came from very humble beginnings before I became part of Journey. Puregold and Tindahan ni Aling Puring continues to serve as an inspiration to countless sari-sari store owners and I feel honored to be part of the team who help people make their dreams come true.”
On May 22 to 25, Puregold will hold its annual Sari-Sari Store Convention entitled Puregold—“Tindahan ni Aling Puring ‘TENkyu Po, Ka-Asenso’ Sari-Sari Store Convention 2013,” to be held simultaneously in three locations namely: Manila, Malolos and Tagaytay.
The event will give the members of Tindahan ni Aling Puring the chance to experience an exclusive, worthwhile, and interactive “entrePinoy” gathering; to enjoy discounts and rebates for top sari-sari store items; to be educated through free sari-sari store items; and to be entertained by variety shows featuring well-known endorsers and celebrities.
