MILITANT women’s group Gabriela party-list has sought the immediate arrest of former Vice Mayor Romeo Borja Jr. of Pantabangan for 22 counts of rape.
In an order dated June 6, Judge Loreto Alog Jr. of the Regional Trial Court Branch 38 of San Jose City Nueva Ecija ordered the issuance of a warrant of arrest with no bail recommended for Borja.
The former vice mayor is being charged for 22 counts of rape on the complaint filed by Borja’s victim identified as “Mina.”
“Immediate police action is imperative,” said Rep. Luz Ilagan of the Gabriela party-list, who stressed that Borja’s immediate arrest will bring a wave of hope not just Mina but for several other victims of rape, sexual abuse and violence.
The women’s party-list group has received at least three complaints over the past year, all accusing Borja of repeatedly raping them.
“We have also received news that there are more victims but are afraid to surface,” said Rep. Emmi de Jesus, also from the Gabriela.
Meanwhile, Mina welcomed the development and hoped that Borja will immediately be placed behind bars.
