AN experienced artillery officer has been designated as the new commander of the Philippine Army’s Artillery Regiment, Col. Benjamin Hao, Army spokesman, announced on Friday.
Col. Erwin de Asis, according to Hao, replaced Col. Agane Adriatico, who has served as acting regiment commander since January 2016 during a simple turnover ceremony presided by Lt. Gen. Eduardo Ano, Army commander, at the regiment headquarters in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija.
Hao described de Asis, a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1987 as a “dynamic leader.”
Prior to his new designation, de Asis served as Executive Officer and Chief, Unit Training Division of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Education and Training, OJ8, General Headquarters, Armed Forces of the Philippines.
He was also the Group Commander of the 5th Army Training Group, Training and Doctrine Command and held staff positions at the 3rd and 9th Infantry Divisions.
Hao said de Asis’ experiences in the field of artillery include commanding the 16th Field
Artillery Battalion, 6th Division Artillery Regiment, and later on serving as the deputy Regimental Commander of the 6th Division Artillery Regiment.
Ano underscored the significant role of artillery regiment units in ending insurgency, particularly in operations in Mindanao.
The Army chief also commended Adriatico, who he said has done an exceptional job in leading the command in accomplishing its goals.
