Arum hints Pacman to return to boxing

Top Rank Promotions chief Bob Arum said he is anticipating that Manny Pacquiao would return to boxing in October.

And as early as now, Arum is preparing a shortlist of possible opponents for the Filipino ring icon that includes Adrien Broner, Danny Garcia and Terence Crawford.

Arum will visit the 37-year-old Pacquiao in July to discuss the matter.

“I will talk to Manny after the holiday here in the US, our independence day, about this if there’s a possibility for him to fight,” Arum told The Manila Times in a phone interview. “I will be there maybe on the fifth or after the first week of July and visit Manny.”

“October is the ideal month to hold that fight and December is not. If he wants to fight, Broner and Crawford are one of the guys that we are working right now. But let’s see what will be the result of discussion. Manny is also an elected senator and he is going to be very busy for his country,” he added.

Broner, the World Boxing Association world super lightweight champion, holds a 32-2 win-loss record with 24 knockouts, while Crawford, the unbeaten American World Boxing Organization super lightweight champion, has a 28-0 record with 20 knockouts.

Garcia, meanwhile, is the World Boxing Council world welterweight champion and has an unbeaten record in 32 fights with 18 knockouts.

According to Pacquiao’s business manager Eric Pineda Top Rank Promotions is seriously pushing for Pacquiao to return to boxing late this year.

“Knowing Manny we can’t predict if he’s coming back in the ring late this year. It is all Top Rank that wanted it to happen,” Pineda said. “But if he misses boxing, then so be it. So far, we’re not discussing it yet.”
