As MHL nears its end… Will GMA keep its hold on the primetime block?


It took many years and many shows before GMA Network regained dominance in the prime time ratings game with the immense success of the risky yet superbly delivered gay-themed storyline of My Husband’s Lover. But as the controversial series nears its highly anticipated conclusion on Friday, the question is, can the network keep its hold over the hotly contested prime time block?

GMA Network says the answer can be found it their new “pioneering roster of shows” premiering this month and all through October. Check them out and be the judge yourself.

Prinsesa ng Buhay Ko premiered strong in the ratings game on September 23. The series, which aims to inspire viewers that dreams still do come true, marks the reunion of two of the network’s top talents, Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal. Playing equally important roles in the series are Renz Fernandez and LJ Reyes.

Kahit Nasan Ka Man, also premiered on Monday, presenting a heartwarming love story seeped in music. Also highlighting the value of dreams, the series tells the journey of two persons in fulfilling their ambitions despite poverty and disability. Directed by Gil Tejada, Jr. it stars Kapuso Pop Superstar Julie Anne San Jose and Kristoffer Martin.

On October 7, GMA Network will present another “original and groundbreaking series” titled Genesis. This drama, sci-fi and action series is topbilled by no less than Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes. He portrays the role of Isaak Salvacion, a morally upright security detail of the Vice President of the Philippines (Robert Arevalo) whose daughter is played by award-winning actress Lorna Tolentino as Sandra Sebastian. Rhian Ramos joins the cast as Raquel, Dingdong’s childhood sweetheart. Genesis, which is set to replace My Husband’s Lover’s timeslot, is directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal and Mark Reyes.

Finally, on Saturday nights, the network will launch its newest game show titled, Picture! Picture!. Five contestants will play each week for as much as a half a million pesos by correctly and consecutively answering 13 picture-aided-questions with corresponding money values. Picture! Picture! is slated to begin on October 26 after 24 Oras.
