A year after its successful participation at the World Costume Festival, the entrancing city of Vigan is again on the global map with its bid for a place in the list of “New 7 Wonders Cities of the World.”
A grand kick-off ceremony was held at the Vigan Convention Center with a show that featured Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid. The renowned singer was part of the GMA Regional TV (RTV) contingent, partnered with the local government to boost its bid to the coveted tilt.
Present at the affair were Vigan City officials led by Mayor Eva Marie Medina; GMA RTV key officers headed by assistant vice president and head of the Integrated Marketing Services Division Oliver Amoroso; New 7 Wonders Foundation executive director Jean Paul de la Fuente; and hundreds of proud and excited Ilokanos.
In his speech, Amoroso expressed, “GMA Network’s Regional TV is happy—and very excited—to partner with the Heritage City of Vigan for the New 7 Wonders Cities of the World campaign. And it is in this note that we would like to convey our sincere appreciation for the trust given to us by Vigan. We, from the network, are proud to say that we are in full support of Vigan’s bid for we uphold every endeavor that would bring out the best in the Filipino.”
Alongside the campaign kick-off was Vigan City’s celebration of the Binatbatan Festival of the Arts where Velasquez-Alcasid’s fans were treated to a night of beautiful music.
Talented Ilokana singers joined their idol on stage besting each other in a showdown of their favorite Asia’s Songbird hits.
