The town councilors of San Ildefonso in Bulacan and Datu Anggal in Maguindanao were killed by gunmen riding a motorcycle in separate ambush incidents on Friday.
Bulacan Police acting provincial director Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr. identified the victim as Ading Cruz, municipal councilor of San Ildefonso.
Investigation showed that Cruz and his friends were having a drink in Barangay Malipangpang at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday when the assailants onboard a motorcycle arrived and one of them shot the victim several times.
Similarly, in Maguindanao a gunman backriding a motorcycle shot dead Guialuson Guimal Angen, councilor of Talitay town who was also riding a motorcycle along Datu Anggal-Datu Odin Sinsuat Highway.
Senior Supt. Agustin Tello, Maguindanao police director, said Angen, 54, was en route to Datu Odin Sinsuat town from Talitay municipality when riding suspects trailing him blocked his path and shot him with .45 caliber pistol.
Angen, a member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Talitay, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.
Tello said investigators are looking into an old grudge, or politics as possible motives in the murder.
Talitay, touted in the past as “shabu capital” of Maguindanao, is also a politically troubled municipality.
Mayor Montassir Sabal of Talitay has been hiding since last year after policemen and soldiers found shabu and assault rifles in his house tipped off by his own constituents.
Sabal is included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s list of narco politicians in Maguindanao.
