Assistance to displaced Butig families continues


COTABATO CITY, Maguindanao: The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, (ARMM) through its Humanitarian Emergency Action and Response Team continues to provide relief assistance to around 2,000 families displaced by military operations against a local rebel group in Butig town, Lanao del Sur even during Ramadan.

ARMM Vice Gov. Haroun Al-Rashid Lucman said residents who have fled the fighting are taking temporary shelter at various evacuation centers in the towns of Lumbanayage, and Masiu, and in Marawi City.

Although no civilian casualty was reported, close to 2,000 families have been displaced, mostly coming from the villages of Bayabao, Poktan, Ragaya, Kuluyan, Samer and Sandag.

Lucman headed the humanitarian and relief operation that included the distribution of food packs and medicines and the provision of free medical services.

He said the region’s health department will also be closely monitoring general health and sanitary conditions in the evacuation centers.
