ZAMBOANGA CITY – Gunmen on a motorcycle shot and wounded an employee of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City.
Police said Maria Victoria C. Montaño, assistant to Ateneo president Fr Karel San Juan, was shot by gunmen who were tailing her in the village of Tetuan. Montaño was heading home when she was attacked Friday evening.
The gunmen fled after the shooting. The motive of the attack is still unknown and police said Montaño is being closely guarded at the hospital where she was rushed.
No individual claimed responsibility for the shooting, but the news attack of the attack quickly spread among Ateneo students who condemned the violence. There was no immediate statement from the Ateneo de Zamboanga University about the attack.
Police on Friday said a man who was on his way to fetch a midwife to help his wife give birth was also shot in Curuan village in Zamboanga City. It said Ruben Barrera was shot by a lone gunman who fled after the attack. Barrera was rushed to the hospital, but his condition is still unknown.
The motive of the attack has not been determined, but police said the shooter had been identified and that officers are on his trail.
