The Aston Martin Vulcan is sure to impress with its awesome power-plant

ASTON Martin’s most powerful and exhilarating car to-date made its first appearance in North America at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) on Friday. The Aston Martin Vulcan, a track-only supercar that produces over 800 bhp, joins the British luxury sports car maker’s presence at NYIAS fresh from a global reveal at the Geneva International Motor Show earlier on March.

Designed entirely in-house by the Aston Martin team led by Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman, the Aston Martin Vulcan is powered by the most potent version of the company’s naturally-aspirated, 7.0-liter V12 petrol engine.

With its 800-plus bhp powerplant developed together with Aston Martin Racing, this mid-ship, rear-wheel drive sports car draws extensively on the brand’s rich GT motorsport experience.

Using tried and tested techniques of world-class motorsport engineering, the Vulcan sees its power-to-weight ratio exceed those of Aston’s own GTE cars which compete in the FIA’s World Endurance Championship. The car is made almost entirely of carbon fiber, with the monocoque and body created by Multimatic, the Canadian company that co-built the One-77 supercar together with the British marque.

Power is transferred to the rear wheels through the Xtrac six-speed sequential gearbox and limited-slip differential. Other components of the drivetrain include a magnesium torque tube with carbon fiber propeller shaft. Brembo calipers and carbon ceramic discs help stop the Vulcan’s 19-inch wheels.

Handling of the Vulcan is much improved with the addition of track-derived pushrod suspension with anti-dive geometry. This is complemented by the Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV), adjustable dampers and front and rear anti-roll bars, in addition to driver-adjustable anti-lock braking and traction control systems.

Although the Vulcan complies with the FIA race safety requirements, the car does not meet the requirements of any other sanctioned race, so it can only compete in one-make events.

Instead, the Vulcan will be made available to customers as part of a driver development program where owners will get training from professional racing drivers.

Only 24 units of the Vulcan will be produced. And prior to taking delivery of their cars, owners will be offered the opportunity to take part in an extensive and detailed program of intensive track driver training.

Experienced racers including Aston Martin Racing’s Le Mans-winning Darren Turner will support owners on their learning journey, offering them the chance to refine their track driving technique and increase their ability through a carefully-constructed series of practical and theoretical driver training events.

Using a number of exciting high performance Aston Martins including the V12 Vantage S and One-77 road cars and the Vantage GT4 race car, customers will gradually build experience and develop their track technique, before beginning their thrilling personal journeys into the immense performance potential of their Aston Martin Vulcan.

Almost infinitely flexible in terms of color and trim options, the exclusive new sports car will be offered to buyers through Aston Martin’s VIP sales program, using the expertise and luxury customer service that is now a hallmark of the brand’s “Q by Aston Martin” bespoke personalization service.
