• Ateneo eyes UAAP baseball crown

ATENEO de Manila University for the clincher in baseball while Adamson University tries to move a win shy of also repeating as softball champion in University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 76 action today at the Rizal Memorial Diamond.

Ateneo goes for a sweep of the race-to-two finals series with archrival De La Salle University in Game 2 that starts at 12 noon at the fabled diamond.

But earlier at 9 a.m., Adamson begins its quest for a fourth-straight title—and an amazing 47-game winning streak—when it takes on National University in the softball finals.

The Lady Falcons swept the 12-game eliminations and are holding a two-to-win and thrice-to-beat advantage over the Lady Bulldogs.

The defending champion Blue Eagles, who wound up No. 2 in the regular season, beat the Green Archers in a classic 10-inning showdown in Game One, 10-8, on Friday, a squeaker made possible by Leandro Banzon and Adriane Ros Bernardo and compounded by six unforced errors by La Salle.

The Ana Santiago-coached Lady Falcons, on the other hand, eye their 13th title overall against the Lady Bulldogs. They won from Seasons 60 to 63 and from Seasons 66 to 69.

The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the finals after beating the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses, 8-5, in the second phase of the stepladder playoffs.
