• Ateneo names Baldwin as new Blue Eagles coach

Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles has announced that Gilas Pilipinas mentor Tab Baldwin will be the coach of its men’s basketball team for the coming University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 79 next year.

Baldwin, who is also a consultant of the Talk ‘N Text team in the Philippine Basketball Association, will replace Bo Perasol who resigned as coach after steering the Blue Eagles to the Final Four this season.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Anthony “Tab” Baldwin as head coach of our men’s basketball team,” said school president Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin SJ in a memo posted in the University’s website.

“Many of you may know coach Tab because of his great success with our Gilas team which won the silver medal in the FIBA Asia last October.”

“He is a multi-titled mentor who has extensive coaching experience internationally, having coach the national teams of Jordan, New Zealand and Lebanon.”

“We could not have accomplished bringing such a renowned coach to the Ateneo without the support of and guidance of Manny V. Pangilinan. As always, we thank MVP for his leadership and constant care of our alma mater.”

“In behalf of the Ateneo De Manila, I would like to thank Coach Bo Perasol for leading our team these last three years,” said Villarin. “We remain truly grateful to him for all that he has done for us and we wish him all the best.”

Ateneo will begin its preparation for Season 79 this December.

Ateneo is the third team in UAAP that hired a new coach in preparation for UAAP Season 79, the other two being De La Salle University and Adamson University.

La Salle hired Aldin Ayo who led Letran to winning this year’s National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball title while Adamson commissioned multi-awarded former La Salle coach Franz Pumaren.
