Defending champion Ateneo de Manila University stopped the fourth-quarter rally of Adamson University, 79-66, to claim its fourth straight victory in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 76 men’s basketball on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
“We kept our composure in the game despite Adamson’s fourth quarter rally,” said Blue Eagles head coach Bo Perasol. “I’m really happy the players were able to hang on in the last three minutes. It’s a collective effort from the players.”
Forward Ryan Buenafe scored 18 points along with nine rebounds, five assists and four steals while Kiefer Ravena scattered 18 points to lead the Blue Eagles to their fifth win overall for a 5-4 win-loss record.
Cameroonian Ingrid Sewa banged in 17 points and had six boards for the Soaring Falcons while Jericho Cruz and Jansen Rios added 14 each.
Adamson dropped to 3-7 card.
Ateneo registered a 57-32 lead entering the fourth period mark, but Adamson’s 16-2 run in the fourth period capped by John Rodney Brondial and Sewa’s three-point play sliced their lead to 69-61 with only four minutes remaining.
But Buenafe came out firing, dropping a booming triple followed by Ravena’s split free throw as the Blue Eagles regained the momentum with a 75-61 advantage going into the final minute of the game.
