Ateneo de Manila University topped the first round of elimination with a 6-1 mark in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 77 men’s basketball tournament. Thanks to the heroics of Kiefer Ravena, who lifted the Blue Eagles in crucial wins including their recent victories over University of Santo Tomas (UST) and University of the East (UE).
In those wins, Ravena averaged 27.5 points, 7 rebounds and 6.5 assists to claim his second UAAP Press Corps-Accel Quantum Plus/316 Player of the Week award.
He scored career-high 38 points when Ateneo outlasted UE in overtime, 93-91, last Sunday.
“He’s always to be the one to lead them. It doesn’t matter whether he’s going to score or not. It’s just the epitome of showing that ‘can-do’ attitude regardless of the situation. Obviously, he was able to deliver us in the end again,” said Ateneo head coach Bo Perasol.
Ravena also nailed a game-winning jumper in Blue Eagles’ 63-61 nerve-wracking win over the Growling Tigers last Wednesday.
“I’m just getting my confidence from my teammates. They’re motivating me that I can do it,” stressed Ravena, who beat Mikee Reyes and Rey Gallarza of the University of the Philippines, and Jeron Teng of De La Salle University for the weekly honor supported by Bactigel hand sanitizer, Doctor J Mighty Alcohol and Mighty Mom Anti-bacteria.
