Buhay party-list Representative Lito Atienza has reiterated his call to repeal the Reproductive Health law, saying it is the time to act before it “destroys our future generations.” In his privilege speech celebrating the “Respect and Care for Life Week” (provided under Presidential Proclamation No. 214 signed by former President Corazon Aquino), Atienza stressed that the 1987 Constitution and The Family Code of the Philippines, which were both approved by former President Corazon Aquino, call for the strengthening of the family as the basic foundation of society. He added that the law is a population control measure that promotes birth control and the use of artificial contraceptives. Atienza also criticized the bill, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity (SOGI). For Atienza, the passage of the bill will mean the legalization of same sex marriage in the country. He reasoned that same-sex marriage in the Philippines also runs counter to the Constitution.
