“I am thrilled to bring this timeless love story to the stage with a truly exceptional cast,” said theater director Bobby Garcia, head of the dynamic and prolific Atlantis Productions on Thursday night, as he presented the cast of his latest outing, Ghost the Musical.
A musical adaptation of the 1990 box office movie, which starred the late Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopie Goldberg, Ghost The Musical has been described internationally as “one of the most adventurous and modern musicals ever seen” (WOR Radio).
Headlining the cast are pop superstar Christian Bautista (West Side Story, Cinderella) as Sam; musical theater actress Cris Villonco (Closer, A Little of Night Music) as Molly; pop singer and former Miss Saigon star Ima Castro (Aida, In The Heights, Piaf) as Oda Mae; and theater actor Hans Eckstein (Piaf, Rock of Ages, The Addams Family) as Carl.
Also for this production, Atlantis announced its first time partnership with Ten Bridges Media Corp., which is headed by television stalwarts
Bobby Barreiro and Tony Tuviera. Barreiro has held top executive positions in GMA Network and TV5, while Tuviera is best known for producing TV’s longest running program Eat Bulaga as well as a string of local box office films.
According to Garcia, the alliance of Atlantis Productions and Ten Bridges Media brings together experience in theatre, television content creation and audience affinity.
He added, “It has always been a dream of ours at Atlantis to expand what we started in the Philippines 15 years ago and create top quality productions for the entire Asian region. With Ten Bridges Media, Bobby Barreiro and Tony Tuviera, we have found the perfect partners who share the same vision and passion for producing world class content, particularly for theater. We look forward to working together as we move forward in producing and presenting shows not only in the Philippines but across all of Asia.”
More on the stage production, Ghost The Musical features an original pop score from multiple Grammy Award-winners Dave Stewart (one-half of the ‘80s pop duo the Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard (co-writer with Alanis Morissette on the multi-platinum album Jagged Little Pill, among many other notable credits and collaborations).
The story of Ghost follows Sam and Molly, a young couple whose connection takes a shocking turn after Sam’s untimely death. Trapped between two worlds, Sam refuses to leave Molly when he learns she is in grave danger. Desperate to communicate with her, he turns to a storefront psychic who helps him protect Molly and avenge his death.
“Ghost is about love, loss and what may lay in store for us in the afterlife. Christian and Cris have brought to life original interpretations of the iconic star crossed lovers Sam and Molly. Together with the riotous Ima Castro and the rest of the hard working cast, I can’t wait to welcome audiences to this extremely romantic night at the theatre,” expressed Garcia.
Also featured in the cast are Altair Alonso, Mikkie Bradshaw, Bym Buhain, Arron Cadawas, Steven Conde, Milai Imperial, Kim Molina, Raul Montesa, Yael Pineda-Hall, Marissa Saroca, and Jamie Wilson.
