President Benigno Aquino 3rd has signed into law a bill declaring August 18 as “Jesse Robredo Day,” a special working holiday.
Under Republic Act (RA) 10669, the Department of Education was mandated to implement activities for “Jesse Robredo Day” in all elementary and secondary schools.
“In the event that the holiday falls on a weekend, the holiday shall be observed on the Friday of that week,” the law said.
The education department must ensure that “Robredo’s legacy of good governance and leadership is given emphasis to encourage students to continue the same for the good of the Philippines and the Filipino people,” it added.
RA 10669, signed by the President on August 18, takes effect 15 days after publication in two newspapers.
