Acclaimed actress Nora Aunor joined members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in slamming Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, also popularly called PacMan, for his statement comparing gays to animals.

Pacquiao, being a public servant, according to Aunor, should have just kept his opinion to himself.

“Ang sa akin naman, nasa gobyerno siya, kung ano ‘yung personal na opinion niya, dapat itago na lang niya. At dapat hindi siya nagkukukumento sa mga issues kasi hindi maganda,” she said on Thursday in a news briefing for the National Commission for Culture and the Arts annual Ani ng Dangal (Harvest of Honors) Awards.

The actress encouraged people to support the LGBT community because, regardless of
their sexual preferences, they are still “people.”

“Suportahan natin ang kapwa natin, kapwa niyo kasi wala naman silang ginagawang masama ‘di ba? Tsaka huwag niyang sasabihing hayop [ang mga LGBT]kasi mga tao yan,” she said.

Taking a potshot at Pacquiao, the actress noted that being a gambler and a womanizer is worse, obviously referring to the lawmaker’s rumored affairs with some actresses in the past and to his penchant for gambling.

“Masama na nga kung sugarol ka, babaero ka, mas masama ‘yun di ba? Dapat hindi na siya nagdadaldal. Humingi siya ng tawad sa mga pinaringgan niya. [Pero] actually wala na, kasi nandoon na eh,” the 62-year-old actress said.

She recalled that she personally had several unpleasant experiences with Pacquiao in the past.

According to the superstar, same-sex marriage should be allowed in the Philippines.
“Para sa akin, bakit naman hindi? Kesa naman nagtatago kayo eh alam naman [na]ng mga tao. Bakit naman hindi kailangan gawing legal?” Aunor said.

Enrile to the rescue

But Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile defended Pacquiao, saying he agrees with the boxing champ.

“I can never support it,” Enrile said, referring to same-sex union.

“Manny Pacauiao is a leader. He is showing a better leadership than most people,” the senator noted.

The veteran lawmaker said he is a “liberist” but not so liberal to accept or support the marriage of two individuals of the same sex.

“Even [among]birds, there is pairing all the time. You will never see any pairing between the same sex, even animals,” Enrile added.

He said those who cannot accept Pacquiao’s position should live in Mars.

Enrile also noted that no matter how much criticism Pacquiao receives, he will still win in the May 2016 elections because he is supported by the masses.

PacMan is just very honest to express his religious conviction and opinion about same sex marriage. Though we recognize that lesbians, gays, transgender, etc are still “people”, as what Ms. Nora Aunor said, they have to obey the rule of God if they are claiming to be such. Otherwise, “mas mabuti pa ang hayop”, as what Pacman carelessly exphasized “kay sa kanila”.
