    Perlas Pilipinas bowed down to the formidable Australia side, 65-107, in the top division of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Women’s Cup 2017 on Monday at the Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru, India.

    The women’s national team suffered its second straight setback in Group B after receiving a 55-106 beatdown to defending champion Japan in its opening game.

    Janine Pontejos led the charge for the Philippines with 18 points highlighted by four triples while Allana Lim contributed 11 markers.

    Sara Blicavs came off the bench to finish with a game-high 21 points and Stephanie Cumming added 18 markers as the world ranked No. 4 Australia improved to 2-0.

    The Australians wasted no time unleashing its offensive arsenal from the opening tip as they posted a huge 34-18 lead in the first period.

    Cumming sank a baseline jumper at the quarter buzzer to further widen the gap, 68-23, for the Opals heading into the halftime.

    The Filipina cagers went on a 12-0 run capped by a Pontejos trey in the final frame but they were still staring on a 58-96 deficit as Australia proceeded to score the romp.

    Perlas plays its last game in the group phase against South Korea on Tuesday night.
