The automotive industry breached its 2013 sales target of 210,000 units.
This developed after the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors Inc. (AVID) recorded 31,399 units sales for the whole of 2013, showing a 10.6-percent increase over 2012’s record of 28,400 units.
The 2013 AVID sales figures along with those of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (Campi) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) for the same year resulted to 212,682 units of vehicles sold last year.
For December alone, AVID members muscled in a 64.1-percent lift after selling 3,491 units sales versus the 2,128 units recorded during the same month in 2012.
Boosting the sales for AVID was the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment with sales of 15,256 units, reflecting a 25.9- percent rise from the previous year’s 12,116 units rolled out.
For the month of December, LCV sales went up by 45.7 percent to 1,696 units.
Meanwhile, passenger car segment figures of AVID memvers for the whole 2013 went down by 0.9 percent to 16,143. But on December, passenger car sales grew by 86.2 percent to 1,795 units versus the 964 units registered in the same month of 2012.
AVID President Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo expressed optimism for a good 2014.
“As the economy’s growth continues to be on a positive track, AVID remains bullish about the prospects for the industry this year with our commitment to provide innovative product and service offerings that respond to the needs and preferences of the Filipino consumers,” Agudo said.
