TO avoid traffic gridlocks during the Holy Week exodus to the provinces, motorists should leave Metro Manila as early as Holy Monday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advised.
“They should leave Metro Manila as early as the night of Holy Monday or the morning of Holy Tuesday,” MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said.
The MMDA warned of a traffic gridlock along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa) as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will finish its road works and reblocking during the Holy Week.
Tolentino said the mega road work is set to start on Holy Tuesday with 33 areas of Edsa’s southbound lane to be repaired until Good Friday.
The 38 sections at the northbound lane will be completed by Easter Sunday.
However, prior to the mega reblocking, the DPWH is set to conduct road repairs in some portions of Edsa that pass the cities of Makati and Pasay this weekend.
According to the MMDA, the DPWH reblocking and road repair will be from 10 p.m. of April 11 until 5 a.m. of April 14 in the following areas: on EDSA in front of Urdaneta Village, Ayala (Southbound, 5th lane), Makati City; on EDSA between Pasay Road and Magallanes (Southbound, 5th lane), Makati City; on EDSA between Taft Avenue and Park Avenue (Southbound, 5th lane), Pasay City; on EDSA before Aurora tunnel (Southbound, 5th lane), Pasay City; and on EDSA before J.P. Rizal ramp (Northbound, 4th lane), Makati City.-
